week 2

During this week we were asked to create some composition images based off of some phrases we were given. I went into Photoshop and picked out 8 words at random and created something using basic shapes that I thought best resembled that word.

Then I was asked to create some images using a specific sized frame. 4 images were given to me to use and I had to create 4 images using them. So I made the bottom 4 photos using what I thought were the best parts of the images.

Week 7

For the final week we were asked to create a free design, which was one of these three options; Vehicle design, Costume Design, Character Design. I opted to choose the costume design as I thought it would be better for me to work off of a pre made design. This way I could test different things and see how they looked on a model. The final design that I ended up with was very futuristically inspired. The sharp straight cut edges give it a clean look whilst still retaining some of the elements from my first design such as the glasses and the hidden face. There is also practicality in the costume as it is good for combat as it had forearm guards that carry hidden blades in them.

Week 6

This week’s task was to create an original vehicle design using online reference. We had to make it realistic yet practical in the sense that it couldn’t have things just hanging off of it because ‘it looks good’ the things involved in the design had to be practical. Below is my attempt at a vehicle designed for flight in space. The reference I used mainly came from Guardians of the Galaxy as well as some harrier jets for the engines. The idea is to make it look weathered yet still operational.designed vehicle

week 5

Below are the different Ideas that I had for creating a human/animal hybrid. The first one I thought I would start out with a simple shape and work from there and seeing as though birds have a basic circular head that would be quite easy. Then I thought that I should make it a bit more difficult so I settled on a duck and added a large bill to the hybrid. The second hybrid was inspired from the film The Fly, and instead of going down the disgusting route I tried making it look a bit more human but also keep the idea of a fly in there. The third idea was a lion. This was another easy one as all I had to do was change a few features such as the mouth, cheeks and hair ( duck, fly, jeff Goldblum, lion) (duck hybrid, fly hybrid, lion hybrid)

Week 4.5

For the second part of the fourth week we were given some black and white photos and asked to add colour to them to fit certain moods that were given to us. The moods given to us were Moody and Dramatic, Light and cheerful and Dark and Depressing. The picture with the door I tried making moody and dramatic and I think I did a good job. The lighting on the lightbulb and the wardrobe are quite dramatic whilst the rest of the picture still being black and white could suggest moodiness. The picture of the house and the trees I tried making light and cheerful by adding some natural colour such as greens and blues, I also added what I tried to make look like a small graffiti tag of a smile on the wall. The final snow picture I tried to make dark and depressing with the dark sky and the white snow contrasting things. I tried to make it look very noir which I believe is quite depressing and always has that dark feel to it.

Week 4

This week we were asked the give some colour to some models that were on the VLE. the first one was a female model that I thought I would make look like a standard civilian. I tried using some complementary colours to make sure that it didn’t look bad. Another reason was to make sure it didn’t strain the eyes and I wanted it to look aesthetically pleasing. The second image I tried basing off of a motocross outfit. I researched different jerseys and matching pants along with the boots that went with them. I ended up settling on a design that I quite liked by FXM and decided to work off of that. The third design was an idea I had for a secret spy wearing tactical gear. I had the idea to try and make the character look like the TV character Archer when he wears his gear. I thought it looked quite secluded and spy like.

Week 3

‘The Scenario: A man returns home, it is night-time and there is a street lamp outside his house. He put the key into the lock of his front door, it swings open, casting light from outside into the hallway. He tries to flick on the light switch, it doesn’t work. The man looks to his right and notices there is a broken window. He takes a few tentative steps forward, he notices that the telephone is off its hook, beeping. He gasps in surprise. A knife appears. Week 1

During this week I was tasked with creating an original costume design based off of reference that I had looked up on the internet. I think that my design is heavily based off of the video game Watchdogs due to the long trench coat and the hat. He also has his face covered with some form of mask. In my head I was hoping to strive for the idea of stealth and darkness. I did, however, want to make it look more futuristic therefore I put some prosthetic legs on the character with inspiration taken from the character Hanzo from Overwatch.
